Maestro Marco De Filippo will lead both sessions. Marco has a PhD in Medieval History, Graduated with the level III (maestro) of the Italian Fencing Federation. His research includes the first complete publication of Le tre giornate di Marc’Antonio Pagano (1553). His teaching methods also draw from his research on the manuscripts of Anonimo Bolognese, Achille Marozzo and Antonio Manciolino.
Marco is the founder and Maestro of La Compagnia della Rosa e della Spada in Naples. The club was founded in 2006. His mind boggingly big CV can be read in full on their website, https://www.rosaespada.com
For practitioners seeking a historically grounded, technical study of Spada e Rotella.
This workshop focuses on Spada e Rotella, a system well documented in the Bolognese tradition. Perhaps the most complete preserved system regarding the use of full size shields known to us.
Rotella’s, or Rodeleros in Spanish, are strapped round shields which saw heavy use during the early 1500’s, especially the Italian wars and the Spanish conquista of the Americas.
A wooden training rotella will be provided for this workshop and are included in the ticket price. Once you get it, it’s yours.
Minimal requirements protective gear: masks, throatguards, gloves (red dragon/
HF firestone or higher), cup, breastplate. For more intensity and pursuit of technique; full protective set is recommended.
Weapons: sidesword is perfect, rapier or arming sword are also suited
For fencers looking to expand their longsword repertoire with the precision and versatility of the Italian tradition.
This workshop explores Spada a Due Mani, the Italian two-handed sword tradition as preserved in the Bolognese manuals.
Minimal Requirements protective gear: masks, throatguards, heavy gloves (lobsters or equivalent), cup, breastplate. For more intensity and pursuit of technique; full protective set is recommended.

Workshops will be given in English
Refreshments will be provided for, but they ain’t meals. Be sure to have eaten beforehand.
Finances:
The costs will be depending on the amount of participants.
The goal is to keep them as low as possible and will not exceed 40 euro’s per session. With 55+ attendees total, we will dip below 30 euro’s per session.
Complete insight into the finances will be provided to the participants.
The rotella workshop will be slightly higher to factor in the rotella’s.
